Digital System for Objective Activity Monitoring
Transforming wearable sensor data into clinical insights to support personalized rehabilitation and continuity of care.

Overview
This innovation, developed within the nationally funded RehArt project, is a digital platform designed to collect, aggregate, and analyze real-time data from wearable activity sensors.
The system enables objective monitoring of physical activity, energy expenditure, and sleep patterns in individuals undergoing rehabilitation in hospital settings, with continuity of monitoring after discharge into community environments.

Why this innovation matters
By transforming raw sensor data into clinically interpretable metrics, the platform supports early detection of inctivity or functional decline, personalized rehabilitation planning, and adherence monitoring.
It also facilitates continuity of care between inpatient and community services through integrated data streams, strenghtening data-informed decision-making.

What makes this system innovative
Unlike many existing propietary solutions, this platform is designed as an open-source and scalable system that allows multi-user integration and remote monitoring infrastructure.
This approach supports accessible and interoperable digital health innovation within public healthcare systems, enabling wider implementation and long-term sustainability.
Key capabilities
Objective measurement of physical activity, energy expenditure, and rest patterns during rehabilitation.
Real-time monitoring of activity and sleep
Centralized system that allows professionals to oversee activity data from several individuals at the same time.
Monitoring multiple patients simultaneously
Automated alerts support timely clinical responses and adjustments to rehabilitation plans.
Early detection of inactivity or functional decline
Data are presented in clinically interpretable formats to support personalized rehabilitation planning.
Professional dashboard for clinical decision-making
The system enables follow-up after discharge, supporting continuity of care across settings.
Continuity of monitoring from hospital to community
Designed for integration into clinical workflows and public healthcare systems, supporting population-level monitoring.
Scalable system for healthcare services

ABOUT
This page presents the RehArt research line, which focuses on the study of enriched rehabilitation environments in inpatient stroke rehabilitation. The aim is to provide evidence-based information for the general public, stroke survivors and families, clinicians, and decision-makers.
